Field Hog

Yard signs, from the first request to the last pickup.

Field Hog is campaign field software, starting with yard signs. It sorts sign requests into delivery routes, gives each volunteer a phone link for their route, and shows organizers what is left. It ran the yard signs for a Minnesota House race in 2026.

What it does

Screens are from the demo. Every name, address and phone number in them is made up.

Every request in one list

Sign requests from the website, from events and from phone calls land in one list. Field Hog sorts them into delivery routes on its own.

Anything it can't place goes to a short queue for an organizer to decide: possible duplicates, addresses the map can't find, and addresses outside the district.

Organizers see each route's progress, can find any sign by name, address or phone, and can print route sheets with a map and a checklist.

The organizer view: counts of signs needing a decision, to deliver and delivered, a Find a sign search, and a queue with a possible duplicate, an address the map could not find, and an address outside the district.

A link for each volunteer, no login

A volunteer opens a link on their phone. They see the next stop, tap once for directions, and mark it Delivered or Declined.

At any stop they can leave a note for the organizers, such as "nobody home, left it by the door." The organizer view updates as they go.

Pickup, street by street

After the election the same app ran the sign pickup. The district was split into 18 areas, and each driver got a map of every street in theirs.

Each area map glows orange where signs are (the phone at the top of this page). Streets turn green as drivers cover them, and organizers watch all 18 areas fill in on one map.

What happened in the race

Field Hog's sign app ran the yard signs for Jen Fox's 2026 campaign for Minnesota House District 41B.

  • 560households had a Jen Fox sign by Election Day.
  • 18pickup areas, driven on 4 November 2026, the day after the election.
  • 11,363 to 9,656Jen Fox won 41B.Unofficial results, Minnesota Secretary of State. The state certifies on 19 November 2026.

See it in a real race

The demo is a copy of the Jen Fox case study. It uses sample voter data and made-up households, so you can tap anything without changing a real record.

Also built for this campaign, and in the demo: a team site, a State of the Race brief and an election night results screen.

What comes next

Planned, not built yet, in this order:

  1. A two-way sync with NGP VAN: sign requests and signups come in, delivered and picked-up status goes back.
  2. Volunteer tracking tied to VAN.
  3. Canvass coverage maps.

Field Hog does not connect to VAN today.

Who's building it

Field Hog is built by Brian Buechner in Hastings, Minnesota. Before this he spent six years as a school counselor. He built the sign app for Jen Fox's 2026 race, drove delivery routes on it and helped run the pickup.
